In County Legislature Race, Gelfarb Holding Onto Lead

The retirement of long-time County Legislator Marty Rogowsky created an open seat and a race with no incumbent. The race has been watched closely by political operatives outside the district because the result could shift the balance of power in the county's Board of Legislators.

, a Rye Town councilman, and , a Port Chester trustee, both touted their municipal experience as they sought to convince voters they should replace Rogowsky.

Brakewood has gained ground with seven districts remaining. Less than 350 votes now separate the candidates.

Election results are as follows:

51% - David B Gelfarb (R, C)

45% - Dan Brakewood (D, WF)

4% - Mark S Jaffe (IN)

Percentages with 32 of 39 districts reporting.

 

The county's District 6 includes Port Chester, Rye Brook and Harrison, and the candidate who wins in November will answer to tens of thousands of constituents.

Gelfarb ran unopposed in the Republican primary, and after a as the Board of Elections tallied votes in October, Brakewood earned his party's nomination with a win over opponent of Harrison.
