Yonkers Man Nabbed for Robbery; Allegedly Drunk Port Chester Man Hits Four Parked Cars

David Rashard Reid, 22, faces a felony robbery charge for the Aug. 5 stick-up at a cleaners.

A Yonkers man is accused of robbing a store owner at gunpoint last month after the victim refused to buy bootleg DVDs.

David Rashard Reid, 22, is scheduled for a court hearing tomorrow. Detectives from the Port Chester Police Department arrested him on a first-degree robbery charge on Monday.

On Aug. 5, Reid walked into The Best Cleaners at 75 Midland Avenue, toting a black bag filled with pirated DVDs, Lt. James Ladeairous said. Reid hawked his DVDs, but the owner waved him off and said he wasn't interested. Reid left, but reappeared 40 minutes later with a green backpack instead – he opened the bag, showed the victim the barrel of a gun and held him up.

Reid's most recent address was a halfway house for recently released inmates in Pleasantville, but he was known for frequenting the Port Chester area with his bootleg DVDs, and the victim was familiar with him, Ladeairous said. Detectives identified Reid when they showed a photo array to the victim, who made a positive identification.

Store Employees Notice Missing Computer Five Days Later

It took the better part of a week for employees at the Verizon Wireless store in Port Chester to realize a laptop had been stolen from a display.

Employees told Port Chester police that Sept. 5 was the last time anyone could confirm the laptop was still in the display case. The display featured three netbooks – two were boxed, centered around a third netbook which had been taken out of its box for the display. Someone walked off with the third netbook, and store employees realized it was missing on Sept. 13, when they called police.

The stolen netbook, an HP Mini, is valued at about $500.

Police: Drunk Driver Struck Four Parked Cars on Poningo Street

A Port Chester man was arrested for driving drunk after striking four parked cars – and calling a friend to nudge his wheel-less SUV a few blocks to his home.

The scene drew the curiosity of a patrol officer, who saw the car pushing a 1996 Chevy Suburban at 4 a.m. Sunday. The large SUV was missing one wheel and carving a deep groove into the pavement with its leaning axle as the car nudged it forward.

The officer followed the track left by the exposed axle, tracing it down Poningo Street, where he found the missing wheel and four parked cars that had all been hit.

When the officer turned back and stopped the two men, he found the driver of the Suburban was drunk and driving without a license, Lt. James Ladeairous said.

Manuel Crespo-Leon, 26, of 57 Oak St., was charged with misdemeanor DWI, leaving the scene of an accident, and driving without a license.
