Tip Leads to Heroin Arrest in Port Chester

Mount Vernon man arrested at Bush Avenue building.

A tip about illegal drug activity at a Bush Avenue building in Port Chester led to the arrest of a Mount Vernon man on heroin possession charges, according to Port Chester Police.

Anthony Morgan, 36, of 236 S. 5th Ave., Mount Vernon, was arrested at about 8 p.m. Tuesday by Port Chester detectives at a 20 Bush Ave. after an investigation of a call to police about drug activity at that building. Morgan is accused of third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance after being found with 22 small packages of heroin, police said.

Port Chester detectives were near the building when a call came in to police headquarters about a suspicious man at 20 Bush Ave. Police said that as detectives approached the building they spotted Morgan, who ran inside the building.

After several attempts to confront Morgan, police said detectives arrested him as he tried to hide in one of the apartments at the building. Police said Morgan had no apparent connection to any of the units in the building.

Police said that after making the arrest they also discovered Morgan was wanted on a warrant accusing him of theft of services in New York City. He faces a hearing in Port Chester Village Court.
