STOP-DWI Patrols in Port Chester Net 4 Drunk Driving Arrests

The arrests include two allegedly drunk drivers who struck parked cars, and a Port Chester man who fell asleep behind the wheel while he was stopped at a red light.

Port Chester police are putting more patrols on the road during the holidays thanks to grant funding from the county's STOP-DWI program.

Since Saturday, the additional patrols have netted four drunk-driving arrests in Port Chester:

  • On Saturday, police arrested 22-year-old Francisco Soto of Willett Avenue for misdemeanor DWI and driving the wrong way on a one-way street. According to police, Soto crashed his red Chevy Cavalier into a parked car after turning the wrong way on Sherman Street a few minutes before 4 a.m. Soto told police he lost control of his car when his cell phone rang and he tried to answer the call.
  • On Sunday, police arrested 43-year-old Wayne Kaczmarski of Greenwich for misdemeanor DWI and driving without headlights. An officer on patrol spotted Kaczmarski driving without his headlights on Abendroth Avenue at about 1 a.m. After pulling the Greenwich man's car over, the officer detected the strong odor of alcohol and charged Kaczmarski after a field sobriety test.
  • On Sunday, police arrested a Stamford man for misdemeanor DWI and driving without headlights. Thirty-four-year-old Edward Keyl was headed north on North Main Street with he drove his BMW into a parked car, Lt. James Ladeairous said. After administering a field sobriety test, officers arrested the Stamford man and charged him with DWI.
  • On Monday, police arrested a 41-year-old Port Chester man who fell asleep at the wheel at the intersection of Slater Street and Boston Post Road. Officers were dispatched to those cross-streets at 12:21 p.m. when a driver reported a man slumped in front of his steering wheel while his car was in traffic. The driver, 41-year-old Manuel Alvarracin of King Street, could only provide a credit card as identification when officers questioned him. Alvarracin has a previous DWI conviction in Port Chester dating back to 2008. As a result, police charged him with felony DWI and obstructing traffic in an intersection. Officers also found a fake international driver's license when they searched Alvarracin's car, but used discretion and did not charge him for the fake license because the Port Chester man did not attempt to use it as ID.
