Scammers Target 90-Year-Old PC Woman

An alleged scammer attempted to steal $2,200 from a 90-year-old woman by pretending to be her grandson over the phone last week, police said. The woman received a call from a male claiming to be her grandson who said he was hurt, in jail in Atlantic City, N. J., and that his attorney would call her to tell her how to send bail money.

A man who said he was named Larry Mitchell called the woman and told her to go to the Rye Brook A&P to wire $1,100 to a person named Angela Castillo and another $1,100 to a person named Cynthia Marte in the Domincan Republic, Ladeairous said.

A bank worker told the woman that the situation sounded like a scheme and the woman contacted Port Chester police.
