Rye Brook Attorney Faces Prison for Mortgage Fraud

David Reback is one of six convicted in the scheme, which netted $1.4 million at the expense of homeowners and mortgage companies.

A Rye Brook attorney faces a maximum of 15 years in state prison after scamming desperate homeowners out of millions, the Westchester County District Attorney's Office said.

David Reback, 68, was part of a group of local men and women who bilked local families out of $1.4 million. Authorities said the families were "desperate" and facing foreclosure when Reback and the others convinced them "to deed their homes to 'investors' with the promise that they could repurchase their property within 12 to 24 months."

Reback pleaded guilty to six felony counts, including conspiracy and grand larceny, on June 23. He was originally scheduled for sentencing earlier this fall, but the hearing has been pushed back to Jan. 11, authorities said.

Reback and five others convinced four local families to sign over their homes to the fake investment team. The victimized families are from Croton-on-Hudson, Yorktown Heights, Cortlandt Manor and Mount Vernon.

Authorities say Reback and his partners took hundreds of thousands of dollars from mortgage companies by artificially inflating the mortgage amounts after "purchasing" each of the homes.

Reback faces a maximum of between five and 15 years in prison.
