Red Cross Volunteers Assisting 36 People Affected by Fire

Volutneers from the American Red Cross in Westchester County are assisting 36 people who were affected by a fire that destroyed one home and damaged two others on Tuesday.

The fire at 142 W. Lincoln Ave., Mount Vernon, left two people injured, according to the Red Cross. The organization was working on Tuesday to provide for the basic needs of the families involved, as well as provide counseling.

The Red Cross was opening a reception center on Tuesday for the affected residents of the 9:40 a.m. fire. The Red Cross estimates 12 people were permanently displaced because of the fire.

Firefighters said the cause of the fire is under investigation.
