Port Chester Woman Charged in Theft of Wallet at Deli

Police: Review of security video led to arrest.

Review of security video at a Port Chester deli led to the arrest of a Port Chester woman on charges that she stole a man's wallet at the deli, according to Port Chester police.

Evette Van Norton, 49, of 13 Weber Drive, Port Chester, was charged with petty larceny after an investigation of an incident that took place at the Edgeland Deli, 77 Midland Ave., police said.

Police said a man went into the deli to make a purchase and put his wallet on a counter at the deli. A short time later, police said, the man discovered his wallet was gone.

When the theft was reported Port Chester police worked with the deli staff and reviewed a video from the store's security system. Police said the video revealed a woman coming into the store and picking up the wallet off the counter and putting it under her arm — then leaving the store.

Police said village officers recognized the woman in the video and identified her as Van Norton. She was then located on Weber Drive and arrested. Van Norton faces a hearing in Port Chester Village Court.
