Port Chester Woman, 85, Hit By Car While Crossing Willett Avenue

Driver, 70, told police victim walked into car as he was making a turn.

An 85-year-old Port Chester woman was hit by a car as she tried to cross Willett Avenue under a railroad bridge where there are no marked pedestrian crossings, according to Port Chester Police.

The 70-year-old driver involved in the incident — also a Port Chester resident — told police the woman walked into his car as he was making a turn from Marvin Place onto Willett Avenue at about 9:45 a.m. Saturday. Police said an investigation of the incident concluded the incident was an accident and the driver was not cited for any violations.

Police said the woman was apparently struck by the side of the car as she was crossing under the Metro-North Commuter Railroad Bridge. She suffered facial cuts and shoulder pain from her fall to the pavement. She was taken by Port Chester EMS to Stamford Hospital for treament.

That section of Willett Avenue is a busy connection that leads to King Street. At Marvin Place, there are two municipal parking areas, however, there are no marked pedestrian crossings on that side of the railroad bridge nor on the Broad Street side of the bridge.
