Port Chester Supermarket Worker Injured Trying To Stop Shoplifters

Police: Two men sought in incident that escalated to a robbery.

A 31-year-old assistant manager of the Port Chester Pathmark was injured Thursday trying to stop two men she saw shoplifting items from the supermarket, according to Port Chester police.

No arrests have been made yet in the 7:47 p.m. incident at Pathmark on Midland Avenue.

Police said the two men, one wearing a yellow jacket, were spotted going to the bath products section of the store and then putting items into a backpack. The assistant manager saw the men leaving the supermarket without paying for the items and tried to stop them.

Lt. James Ladeairous said the assistant manager, a Port Chester resident, grabbed the backpack from the men, but the men pulled the backpack away from her and ran away. Ladeairous said the assistant manager felt something "pop" in her arm as the bag was pulled away.

The woman was taken to Greenwich Hospital for treatment of a possible broken arm.

Ladeairous said that because of the confrontation and injury in the shoplifting incident, the matter is being investigated as a robbery.
