Port Chester Police Investigate Credit Fraud Attempt

Port Chester police are investigating a report of fraud from a local business owner whose ID appears to have been taken in order to use a charge card for a home improvement store.

Police at 11:24 a.m. on Nov. 8 received a complaint from a business owner who received a pair of Lowe’s credit cards in the mail on Oct. 30, according to Lt. James Ladeairous. The woman thought the cards were junk mail until Nov. 4, when she receive a letter “congratulating her for opening an account,” he said.

After contacting the Lowe’s credit department, the woman discovered that an account had been opened in her name on Oct. 25, complete with a tax code and account ID, police said. Someone tried to use the account on Oct. 27 but was unable to without the physical card, police said.
