Port Chester Police Arrest Shotgun-Toting Man On Sand Street

A Port Chester man who had a loaded shotgun hidden in his clothes on Sand Street was arrested after village police officers chased and captured him Wednesday night, according to Port Chester police.

Lt. James Ladeairous said Kelvin Liranzo, 21, of 24 Sand St., struggled with village police officers as they tried to capture him and he was tackled as he tried to take the 12-guage Harrington and Richardson shotgun from his waistband.

Liranzo, who is being held in the Westchester County Jail in Valhalla pending a hearing, is charged with menacing a police officer, a felony, and resisting arrest.

Ladeairous said the incident began about 10 p.m. when police received a report of a man in front of 24 Sand St. adjusting the waist band of his pants as if he were carrying a weapon. Village police officers spotted Liranzo on Sand Street and after observing him decided to approach him for questioning.

Ladeairous said Liranzo ran from police officers and went inside 24 Sand St. In the building, Ladeairous said police officers heard an object fall from Liranzo's pants and they were able to tackle him and grab the gun in the process.

No one was injured in the incident. Ladeairous said there was one live shell in the shotgun and Liranzo was found with a box containing four more live shells for the gun.

Involved in Liranzo's capture were Port Chester Det. Chris Krzeminski, Det. Tom Munnelly, Police Officers William Krzeminski, Jeff Garcia and Mitch Kolc and Sgt. Steve Barbara.
