Port Chester Merchant Threatened With Knife

He tried to stop man who stole $12.50 worth of food from Texas Chili.

A Port Chester shop owner who tried to stop a man who stole a $12.50 food order was threatened with a knife, according to Port Chester police.

Police said a food order was called in to Texas Chili Restaurant, 8 S. Main St., at about 1 a.m. on Friday. As the order was put together, the shop tried to call back the person who made the order, but the person who answered the call-back number did not know anything about the order.

At the same time, police said a man grabbed the food order from the counter and ran out onto Main Street. Police said the shop owner went after the man and chased him until the man stopped, turned around and threatened the shop owner with a knife.

The merchant gave up the chase at that point, police said. No one was injured.

The man who stole the food order was described by police as Hispanic, about 5-foot-7, wearing blue jeans and a hooded sweatshirt.
