Port Chester Man Struck by Metro-North Train

The man was walking between two active tracks and did not hear the train coming, an MTA spokesperson said.

A Metro North train stuck a 30-year-old Port Chester man who was walking on the train tracks at 2:32 Sunday morning, an MTA spokesperson said Monday. He was taken to Westchester Medical Center for treatment where he is reportedly in stable condition, said spokesperson Margorie Anders.

The train engineer on the 1:47 a.m. express train out of Grand Central to New Haven saw the man on the tracks between the Port Chester and Greenwich stations. He put the train into emergency breaking and sounded the horn but the man did not move out of the way, Anders said.

“Apparently it did not strike him head on, but the blow was enough to take him to the hospital,” she said.

About 250 customers who were on the train, which was heading east from New York City, were transferred to the next train, which was a Stamford local that was extended to take the riders to New Haven.
