Port Chester Man Accused of Stealing $400 from Lost Wallet

Arrest information is supplied by the Port Chester Police Department. It does not indicate convictions.

A 27-year-old Port Chester man was charged with petit larceny after taking a wallet from which $400 in cash was found to be missing, police said.

Harold Powers, of 135 Willett Ave., was tracked down by police who saw him, on surveillance videos, grab a wallet that inadvertently had been left at the counter at L&L Market on Willett Avenue.

According to Lt. James Ladeairous, Powers admitted to taking the wallet when confonted. The person who had lost the wallet—a 39-year-old Byram man—reported that it was returned with four $100 bills missing, police said. Powers told police that he hadn’t taken the money, yet he also said he would reimburse the Byram man in increments, Ladeairous said. The Byram man decided to press charges, police said.
