Port Chester Man Accused of Home Burglary, Trying to Grab Cop's Gun

Investigation of burglary spree leads to early-morning chase, arrest. Probe looks at connection to six other burglaries in Port Chester and the City of Rye.

An investigation of a spree of burglaries over the last two days has led to the arrest of a Port Chester man who is also accused of trying to grab a police officer's gun as he was captured, according to Port Chester Police.

Police say the arrest of Luis Alberto Pimentel, 23, of 18 Bent Ave., Port Chester, came after a Fairview Place resident reported a burglar at the home at 2:11 a.m. Thursday. Port Chester police, with the assistance of Rye and Rye Brook police, set up a search perimiter and eventually located Pimentel hiding under a car on Spring Street.

The Fairview Place resident told police of being awakened by the sound of breaking glass and then seeing a person dressed in dark clothing coming out of the basement. The resident saw the burglar run down Fairview Place toward Clinton Street.

As police searched the area, a chase of the suspected burglar went through dark yards and lasted nearly a hour. Police said that as Pimentel was arrested on Spring Street he tried to grab a police officer's gun.

As a result, Pimentel has been charged with second-degree attempted criminal possession of a weapon along with second-degree burglary. Port Chester Police said Pimentel is also being investigated in connection with six other burglaries in Port Chester and one in the City of Rye.

Pimentel is being held at Westchester County Medical Center in Valhalla, where he is being treated for injuries related to the chase and his arrest.
