Port Chester Man Accused of Groping Female Employee

A male employee at Port Chester's Westchester Market was charged with misdemeanor sexual abuse after a female co-worker accused him of groping her.

A Port Chester man is due back in court on Monday after he was accused of groping a female employee in his store.

A 21-year-old woman told police she took at job at Westchester Market on Jan. 23. She said she lasted four days at the 179 Westchester Ave. shop before she quit because "the manager had a habit of touching her," according to the police report.

The woman alleges 51-year-old Renan Maldonado started massaging her back and moving his hands toward her posterior. She told Maldonado to stop, and the Port Chester man agreed, Lt. James Ladeairous said.

But Maldonado allegedly continued touching the female employee, according to police. The woman quit on Jan. 27 and told police Maldonado was sitting on a chair in the store when he tried to pull her on top of him.

She left the store, went home and dialed police, Ladeairous said. Detectives went to Westchester Market to interview Maldonado, then charged him with third-degree sexual abuse, a misdemeanor. Police said there are cameras in the store, but did not detail what was found on the footage.

Maldonado was sent to Westchester County Jail, where he remains in lieu of $2,500 bail. He's due back in village court on Monday.
