Port Chester Man Accused in Theft Attempt During Hurricane

Hobart Avenue residents grab man going through their car, hold him for police.

As Hurricane Sandy was ripping through Port Chester, a village man was accused of trying to rip off items from a parked car, according to Port Chester police.

The man, Ahmed Khalil Dazzazi, 25, of 71 Halstead Ave., is charged with atempted petty larceny, police said.

Dazzazi was arrested at about 9 p.m. on Monday after Port Chester police received a call from residents of a home on Hobart Avenue that someone had entered their car. Police said a resident looked out her window to check on he storm and she spotted a man walking up the street and then entering her car.

Police said the woman's husband and son went out during the storm to confront the man in the car and held him until police arrived.

Dazzazi, according to police, was also being investigated to determine whether he may have been involved in other incidents in the area.
