Port Chester House Ransacked as Owner is Away Caring for Sick Relative

Damage estimated at $15,000; $8,000 worth of items stolen.

A Port Chester woman who was caring for a sick relative returned home to find her home had been burglarized and ransacked, according to Port Chester Police.

An estimated $15,000 worth of damage was done to the home and an estimated $8,000 worth of personal belongings were stolen from the Purdy Avenue residence sometime March 11 and April 1.

The homeowner was away from the house for about three weeks. When she returned home, police said the woman found the front door had been damaged. Inside, there was damage throughout the home.

At least five doors, three windows and two radiators were damaged. Copper pipe had been removed from the home and police said it appeared that an attempt had been made to remove the home's furnace.

Additionally, the homeowner reported items stolen included two lawnmovers, a snowblower, two bicycles, four sets of window blinds, two cameras and two televisions.
