A message from Village of Rye Brook:

Important Hurricane Sandy Information from the Village of Rye Brook

The Village of Rye Brook is closely monitoring Hurricane Sandy as it approaches the East Coast with the worst of the storm expected to pass Monday afternoon into Tuesday.

The National Weather Service has issued a High Wind Warning from 6:00 am Monday, 10/29 until 6:00 pm Tuesday, 10/30.  The strongest winds with gusts up to 80 mph are expected Monday afternoon and night.  Prepare for the possibility of moderate wind damage. Winds will be capable of downing trees and snapping off large tree branches. Power outages could last at least several days. Debris will block some roads. Minor structural damage to buildings and homes is possible.

The Port Chester High School will be open as a Red Cross shelter.

Sanitation pick-up for the Village of Rye Brook on Monday, 10/29 will begin at 6:00 am and will continue as weather conditions permit, please have your trash out prior to 6:00 am.  Once pick-up has been made, remember to bring in the trash cans to prevent them from being blown in the high winds.

The Village of Rye Brook is asking that no cars be parked in the street during the storm, especially in flood prone areas.  People who live in flood prone areas should plan now to park cars on higher ground.

Make sure your gas tank is filled in the event of evacuation. Make sure you have cash on hand in the event of power failures causing banks and ATMs to close down.  In the event of flooding, get important papers and special photos in order and secured in plastic.

In the event you need to be on the road during the storm, be aware that traffic signals may not be working, remember to obey the 4-way stop rule at intersections.  Do not drive into standing water.

Ask your friends and family to sign up for important safety alert information from the Village of Rye Brook by going to the Village of Rye Brook web page at ryebrook.org and look at the left margin to sign up with Nixle.

Residents experiencing an interruption in electrical service should contact Con Edison Directly at 1-800 75CONED (26633) to report their outage. All affected residents should call Con Edison even if the outage was reported by their neighbor.

If you experience an emergency contact the Rye Brook Police Department by dialing 911. Do not dial 911 for general information, 911 is for emergency use only.
