[UPDATE] Port Chester Auxiliary Police Seek Help with Holiday Fundraising Effort

UPDATE (6 A.M. SATURDAY, DEC. 22): Port Chester Police Department Auxiliary Police officers will be out today and Sunday collecting more donations to help their toy donation effort.

Look for them in the Kohl's Parking lot at the main entrance from Boston Post Road. They'll be there from about 10:30 a.m. to about 3 p.m. today and Sunday.

Port Chester's volunter auxiliary police officers are seeking the public's help in their efforts to provide needy children in the village with toys for the holiday season.

Members of the Port Chester Police Department's 12-person auxiliary force say their annual effort to buy toys for children is a labor of love. However, the volunteers say that the 2012 holiday season has been a tough one so far for their fundrasing efforts.

John Touri, one of the auxiliary officers involved in the fundraising effort, says donations are down this year, largely in part because of a number of worthy fundraising efforts going on at the same time — including Hurricane Sandy relief efforts.

Touri said he's hoping Port Chester residents will respond to their outreach efforts with additional donations so toys can be purchased to meet the needs of local children. Auxiliary officers have been out a locations throughout the village collecting funds for the holiday toy effort and are continuing to be out on the streets for the drive through the end of the month.

Look for the volunteers on upper Westchester Avenue near Regent Street, at Kohl's off Boston Post Road, A&P on South Ridge Street, Pathmark on Midland Avenue and Don Bosco Place. The auxiliary officers are buying toys that will be donated to children through Port Chester's Carver Center and through the Don Bosco Community Center.
