Police: Woman Faces Felony Charge for Fake $100 Bill

A 39-year-old Port Chester woman was arrested for allegedly paying a cab driver with a counterfeit $100 bill after a ride at 12:35 a.m. on Sept. 5. The woman, Maria Hernandez of Alto Avenue, paid for the cab ride she took with her friend from the Port Chester train station to Irving Avenue with the allegedly fake bill and the driver gave her change of $93, Police Lt. James Ladeairous said.

When the driver tried to deposit the bill the next day, the bank told her it was counterfeit so she called the police and identified the woman, who she already knew.

Police called Hernandez and told her to turn herself in, which she did at 4:10 p.m. on Sept. 11. Hernandez was charged with criminal possession of a forged instrument in the first degree, a Class C felony and, because she allegedly accepted the $93 in change, petty larceny, a misdemeanor.
