A Poningo Street woman knew not to wire money to a man who said he was from Con Edison thanks to police warnings about similar scams, she told police last week. A man who said he was Jon Martinez from Con Edison called her on Sept. 26 and said that if she did not wire $570 to a random address he provided her power would be turned off. She refused and called police to report the incident and tell them she knew better after hearing about similar scams through police reports in the news.
