Police: Port Chester Woman Allegedly Tries to Stab Sister

A family squabble led to the woman allegedly trying to stab her sister while she held her child in her arms.

A Port Chester woman is accused of trying to stab her sister while the victim was holding her young daughter in her arms Wednesday, according to police.

Liliana Pena Hernandez, 27, was with her 24-year-old sister at their Touraine Avenue home early Wednesday evening when Hernandez' son began crying, Lt. James Ladeairous said.

Hernandez blamed her younger sister's baby daughter and "became enraged," according to the sister. That's when she opened a kitchen drawer, pulled out a six-inch kitchen knife and ran towards her sister, allegedly trying to stab the younger woman as she was holding her daughter in her arms.

The sister sidestepped the attack and ran into the bathroom, where she dialed 911 from her cell phone, Ladeairous said. Arriving officers found Hernandez still inside the apartment and located the discarded kitchen knife before placing Hernandez under arrest.

Hernandez, of 21 Touraine Ave., was charged with second-degree menacing and endangering the welfare of a child, both misdemeanors. She was brought to lock-up in police headquarters on Main Street, but posted bail pending a court appearance Thursday morning.
