Police: Port Chester Man, Enraged Over Lost Volleyball Match, Smashed Car Windows

Officers found the man hiding in his bedroom after taking a rock to a friend's minivan.

Just call him the John McEnroe of volleyball.

A Port Chester man went into a frustration- and alcohol-fueled rage Thursday night after he lost a backyard volleyball game, taking a rock to a friend's minivan, Lt. James Ladeairous said.

Police were called to 248 Seymour Road at 5 p.m. after the volleyball game ended. Witnesses told police 31-year-old Luis Fernando Pasato was taking the friendly backyard game a bit too seriously, but they didn't expect his reaction.

"He was getting upset he was losing and said he didn't want to play anymore," Ladeairous said.

Pasato's friends, not realizing the Port Chester man was seriously upset, ribbed him about the loss, and he flipped, picking up a rock and chasing two of the other men before turning his sights on a friend's red minivan. Pasato smashed every window on the minivan except for the windshield, then ran upstairs to his apartment to hide when shocked onlookers called police.

Officers found Pasato hiding in his bedroom, nursing a cut on his right wrist from broken glass. They called paramedics, who arrived and treated the wound.

Pasato was charged with third-degree criminal mischief, a felony. He was arraigned this morning in Port Chester village court.
