Police: Port Chester Man Arrested After Punching His Mother-In-Law

Poningo Street resident tells cops "She would not leave me alone."

A Port Chester man was arrested on an assault charge early this morning after he punched his mother-in-law in the mouth, according to Port Chester police.

Juan Chanes, 19, of 36 Poningo St., told police he hit the 42-year-old woman because "She would not leave me alone," according to Port Chester Lt. James Ladeairous.

Ladeairous said that everyone involved in the incident appeared to be intoxicated when village officers investigated the family dispute at about 2:05 a.m. at 36 Poningo St. Police were uncertain of what spefically led to the assault.

The victim received cuts on her lips but refused medical attention.

Chanes was charged with third-degree assault, a misdemeanor, and he was released this afternoon on $100 bail pending an Oct. 5 Port Chester Village Court hearing.
