Police: Port Chester Driver Charged WIth DWI After Nearly Running Down Several Cops

Village police were on Weber Drive investigating another incident when they had to jump out of the way oncoming car.

officers say they had to jump for their lives when a car driven by an accused drunken driver came speeding toward them on Weber Drive Tuesday morning as they were investigating a neighbor dispute on the street.

No one was injured in the 12:20 a.m. incident, but police said it was a very close call for village officers.

Police said Kafele Carty, 22, of 186 Grace Church St. was driving a 2002 Acura on Weber Drive and failed to stop for police officers who were on the street. At the time, police were checking out a report from a Port Chester woman that a neighbor had set a dog upon her. That incident is still under investigation.

As police officers recovered from the near-miss, a village officer chased Carty in a police car and stopped him on Midland Avenue. Police said Carty was found to be intoxicated.

- Driving while intoxicated, a misdemeanor.

- Aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.

- Driving a car that was unregistered.

- And, failing to yield to pedestrians – the police officers.

Police also contacted White Plains police about Carty, who was found to be wanted on charges from that city.
