Police: PC Man Jumped In Front of Detective's Car

Police say the Port Chester man recognized the unmarked car and was "looking to push buttons" and get a rise out of detectives.

A Port Chester man was arrested Wednesday night for throwing himself in front of an unmarked patrol car and holding up traffic, Port Chester police said.

Two detectives were driving southbound on Poningo Street at 10:15 p.m. when they reached the Parker Street intersection and a 25-year-old man jumped out in front of their unmarked car, Lt. James Ladeairous said.

After the detective in the driver's seat slammed on the brakes, the Port Chester man went on an obscenity-laced tirade, egging the detectives on, according to Ladeairous.

Although the car is unmarked, most detectives are familiar faces to people in the village, and police say the man recognized the detectives. The intersection is also a popular hang-out spot among some locals.

"They told him to leave, he refused and continued yelling at them," Ladeairous said.

After another warning and a traffic back-up behind the detective car, police arrested the man and charged him with disorderly conduct, a violation. They took him to headquarters, waited for him to calm down, and released him, Ladeairous said.
