Police: Owner Thwarted Break-in at Exotic Bird Shop

An exotic bird store owner on Main Street slept in his store overnight after noticing marks from a glass cutter on a window.

A Main Street business owner may have thwarted a burglary when he noticed marks from a glass cutter on a window, Port Chester police said.

The owner of The Bird House at 6 S. Main St. called police Monday at 7:30 p.m. and told them he noticed three slash marks to a glass window which appeared to be done with a glass cutter, Lt. James Ladeairous said.

The owner told officers he believes a burglar was prepping the window for an overnight break-in, as two exotic birds with $3,000 each were kept just beyond the damaged window.

Police took a report, and the owner told officers he planned to sleep in the store overnight before getting the window repaired. The would-be burglar had not returned as of Wednesday.
