Police Investigate 3 Burglaries in Same Building

Police began receiving calls from the same address as the building's residents arrived home from work and discovered missing jewelry and cash.

A burglar made off with a heap of jewelry after breaking into three apartments in the same building on Leicester Street Monday, Port Chester police said.

Police received three consecutive reports from residents in the building as they returned home from work and discovered the burglaries, Lt. James Ladeairous said.

The first victim, who lives on the second floor, told police she discovered the break-in at 2:30 p.m. but didn't report it until about four hours later. The 28-year-old woman told detectives she first noticed her cell phone was missing from her bedroom, then checked her other belongings and realized cash, rings and a bracelet had been taken.

Police were called back to the same address at 7:48 p.m., where the 34-year-old resident of a basement apartment told them jewelry was missing. Detectives found no signs of forced entry, but the victim told them the burglar had stolen more than two dozen pieces of jewelry, including gold rings, necklaces, bracelets, earrings and several watches.

While officers were conducting follow-up interviews, a 38-year-old woman who lives on the first floor came home and told them a wooden jewelry box in her apartment had been emptied. Like the victim in the basement apartment, the woman told officers more than 25 pieces of jewelry were taken in the burglary.

Police are conducting an investigation. Anyone with information on the break-ins at Leicester Street is asked to call the Port Chester Police Department at 914-939-1000. All calls will be kept confidential.
