Police: GPS Units, iPods Stolen in 8 Weekend Car Break-Ins

Thieves stole gadgets and tools from eight cars and trucks over the weekend, according to police.

Police urge locals to keep their cars locked and valuables out of sight after a rash of car break-ins this weekend.

The break-ins were reported downtown on Westchester Avenue, as well as on residential streets like Betsy Brown Circle, Munson Street and Shelley Avenue.

In one case, thieves slit open the canvas top of a Jeep, stealing a tool box inside. On Shelley Avenue, they took a GPS unit from a parked car; and a GPS unit and tools went missing from cars parked on or near Westchester Avenue, including the Costco parking lot, Lt. James Ladeairous said.
