Police: E. Broadway Apartment Broken Into and Ransacked

Police are looking for witnesses who may have spotted the would-be burglars.

Port Chester police say a burglar may have been scared off after an East Broadway apartment was ransacked, but nothing was stolen.

The apartment's residents reported the break-in to police on Thursday, telling officers they'd left for work at 8 a.m. and returned at 7 p.m. to find a window screen ripped open.

The burglar climbed in through a basement window, then headed upstairs, leaving the basement door open. Items were strewn about and the apartment was ransacked, but nothing was missing, Lt. James Ladeairous said.

A neighbor told police he saw a group of five or six men with a ladder at the house at 10 a.m., but it's not clear if they were legitimate contractors or if they were involved in the burglary, Ladeairous said.

Anyone with information on the attempted burglary can call the Port Chester Police Department at 914-939-1000. All calls will be kept confidential.
