Police: Burglar Lifts $5,000 in Jewelry from Westchester Ave. Apartment

A Rolex watch and an iPod were among the items stolen in an early evening burglary Monday.

More than $5,000 worth in jewelry was stolen from a Westchester Avenue apartment on Monday night, Port Chester police said.

The residents of the first-floor apartment at 410 Westchester Ave. told police they'd left at 5 p.m. and returned at 7:30 p.m. to find a door leading to a small balcony had been pried open, Lt. James Ladeairous said.

Police found boot prints in the dirt outside leading to the balcony, where the burglar had climbed up, and damage marks around the lock on the balcony door.

The burglar stole a Rolex watch, an iPod, and several pieces of jewelry worth a combined $5,000.

The complex is styled as a "luxury building" with apartments that command prices in the $400,000 range. The recently-built complex stands in a busy area, adjacent to Port Chester's Carver Center and several other apartment buildings near the intersection of Westchester Avenue and Regent Street.

Anyone with information on the burglary can call the Port Chester Police Department at 914-939-1000. All calls will be kept confidential.
