Police: Accused Drunk Driver Hits Port Chester Patrol Car

Parked car sideswiped, police car struck later.

A Port Chester woman is charged with drunken driving after sideswiping a parked car and backing into a Port Chester police patrol car, according to Port Chester police.

Village police officers were sent to investigate a report of an accident at Poningo Street and Westchester Avenue about 2:45 a.m. Saturday. Police said they found that Mara Araujo, 21, of 460 Willett Ave., Port Chester, had hit a parked car.

Police said that as they went to question Araujo, her car went into reverse and struck a police car. No serious damage was done by in this collision, however, police said Araujo was taken to White Plains Hospital for evaluation when they noticed marks on her head.

Araujo, according to police, appeared intoxicated and told police officers she was coming from a bar and was on her way home at the time of the accidents.

In addition to driving while intoxicated, a misdemeanor, Araujo was charged with unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle — police said she has no driver's license.
