Police: 10 Pounds of Marijuana Found in Car on NYS Thruway

Two Massachusetts woman arrested after car is stopped for traffic violations.

A car stopped for traffic violations on the New York State Thruway was found to contain more than 10 pounds of marijuana, according to State Police.

State Troopers based out of Haverstraw have charged two Massachusetts women with illegal drug possession as a result of the incident in Nyack in Rockland County. They are both being held in the Rockland County Correctional Facility in New City pending a court hearing.

Police said the women were stopped on the Thruway as they were headed northbound at about 11:12 p.m. on Saturday. Emilia D. Lima, 29, of 940 Parker St., Jamaica Plain, MA, was driving the car, with Valerie L. Monteiro, 24, of 314 Kittredge St., Roslindale, MA., the passenger.

Lima and Monteiro were both charged with first-degree criminal possession of marijuana, and Monteiro was also charged with second-degree criminal impersonation.
