A Port Chester woman called police Wednesday and told them her couch had gone missing -- from her driveway.
Officers were called to the Elmont Avenue home at 6 p.m. Wednesday, where they were met by a 49-year-old woman who said she left several home items in her driveway while she was doing work inside her house.
The woman left a cream-colored leather couch, four cast-iron radiators and a propane tank in her driveway at 7 a.m. Tuesday and reported the thefts 23 hours later, Lt. James Ladeairous said.
But was it really theft? Police aren't so sure, noting that someone could have seen the couch sitting in the driveway for a day and assumed it was trash. They may have hauled it off, not realizing the owner intended to bring it back inside.
But that doesn't explain the missing radiators and propane tank. The combined value of the items was $1,500, according to the victim.
If you hauled away a cream-colored leather couch from an Elmont Avenue driveway -- or know someone who did -- you can call the Port Chester Police Department at 914-939-1000 to clear up any misunderstanding.
