Police: PC Man Hands Off Bag of Pot to Teenage Girl

The hand off cost the local driver a misdemeanor charge he would have avoided.

A 23-year-old Port Chester man learned that it is better to be caught with marijuana in your car than caught handing it off to a minor during a traffic stop this month, according to the Port Chester police.

The Oak Street resident handed off a backpack of pot to a 14-year-old girl while a police officer who pulled him over for failing to signal a turn onto Grove Street ran his information in the police car, Lt. James Ladeairous said. The incident occurred on Aug. 5 around 5:15 p.m.

The officer noticed the girl come by and pick up the bag and had another officer stopped her. He found eight clear plastic bags of marijuana in the backpack. The driver was charged with endangering the welfare of the child, a misdemeanor he would have avoided; unlawful possession of marijuana, a violation, and suspended registration, a traffic violation.
