Nanuet Woman Dies After Being Struck By Car On Route 59

No charges filed against 17-year-old driver from Valley Cottage in Nanuet accident.

A 34-year-old Nanuet woman died after she was struck by a car Monday night as she crossed on to Route 59 in Nanuet, according to Clarkstown police.

The pedestrian, Dansi Nolasco-Jimenez of Church Street, was struck about 7:10 p.m. west of College Avenue by a 2006 Toyota driven by a 17-year-old girl from Valley Cottage. Police said the driver has not been cited for any violations.

After interviews with the driver and her passenger, police said the incident appears to be an accident. The driver told police that there was no one on the road as she pulled out of the near Middletown Road but that the pedestrian, wearing dark clothing, stepped into the right traffic lane as the car approached.

The driver told police she could not avoid the pedestrian.

The Clarkstown police accident investigation unit was called to probe the incident and had portions of eastbound Route 59 closed Monday night.

Police are uncertain where Nolasco-Jimenez was going when she was struck. Her family was notified of her death.

Members of Nanuet Volunteer Ambulance Corps and Rockland Paramedics assisted at the scene of the accident.

Joey, can you recommend a good driving school for us? I have a feeling you can.

I don't know exactly where the accident happened but she could have swerved the other way. It's not that dark out.

You guys have to understand that the speed limit on rt. 59 is 40mph and the pull of gravity is about -10 m/s squared. considering the fact that the deceased women, god bless her, was in all black, it was night, we don't have much info about the car( size, mass, if it was a stick shift or an auto, how well the breaks worked) and there is no cross walk in the middle of the 4 lanes on rt.59, it is pretty difficult for one to come to a full stop in a matter of seconds with all these components. You have to think of this situation as if you were in this 17 year old girl's shoes. She did not mean to kill Ms. Dansi Nolasco-Jimenez, it just happened; it was a mistake. (also you have to include the shock factor). Yes i know what you are thinking she could have hit the sudden brake, but it really depends on how far away Dansi was(physics). who knows exactly what happened, but we should not blame this teenager for this tragic accident. Please. We should all be careful next time we are walking and make sure you are driving carefully, and be aware. Kids have the right to drive 16 and half +, as long as we drive responsibly, I happen to be a SADD and I am a very good and responsible driver. I have the right to drive. The poor girl was not on intoxicated or in any impaired state. I am a licensed NYS driver and i happen to be a 17 yea old girl. I never went tot drivers ed, but i can tell you right now that I know a lot. That's all have to say. hope you guys understand where i'm coming from.
