A woman, who Greenwich Police describe as a nanny for a Greenwich family, was arrested this week after she was accused of using a stolen credit card to make a purchase at a local pharmacy.
The woman already is serving probation on previous credit card theft and fraud charges, according to court records.
According to a police report, Gloria Aleida Ruiz, 46, of 38 Wilbur Peck Ct., Greenwich, was arrested about 12:15 p.m. Oct. 7, at the CVS pharmacy, 99 Greenwich Ave. Police were called to the store for a report of "possible use of a stolen credit card," according to the report.
Police spokesman Lt. Kraig Gray said Ruiz is accused of having "credit cards and a wallet belonging to someone from Rye, NY that were stolen from an unlocked car at a nursery school in Rye earlier in the day (Oct. 7)."
Ruiz apparently was using one of the stolen cards to buy gift cards while she left the toddler she was entrusted with caring for, with a second person waiting outside the pharmacy. That individual was not identified or charged in connection with the CVS incident, Gray said.
Ruiz was arrested earlier this year on charges she stole credit cards and used them while employed as a housekeeper for another Greenwich family. In February, Ruiz was charged with 11 counts of illegal use of a credit card and one count of credit card theft in connection with an incident reported to police on Christmas Eve 2012.
According to electronic state of Connecticut Judicial Department records, Ruiz pleaded guilty to one count each of credit card theft and credit card fraud. In June, she received a suspended one-year sentence in jail for each count and to two years probation, according to the records.
Ruiz is free on the latest charge after posting $500 bond and is scheduled to appear Oct. 15 in state Superior Court in Stamford.
