Port Chester Police Lt. James Ladeairous said the thieves appear to be bypassing locked cars — not bothering to break into them, going instead for easy to enter unlocked cars.

Ladeairous said the thefts have taken place in neighborhoods throughout Port Chester and Rye Brook. He noted that the thieves don't care if a car is parked closed to a home in a driveway. If it's unlocked, the thieves are jumping into the cars.
