Jewelry Stolen in Daylight Burglary

There were no signs of forced entry at the Madison Avenue home, according to police

Port Chester police are investigating a daylight burglary on Madison Avenue.

The 61-year-old victim told police she left her house to go to work at 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday and returned five hours later to feed her cats. When she came home during her break, she noticed the door to her apartment was slightly ajar, Lt. James Ladeairous said.

The victim didn't see anything out of place and didn't think much of it -- assuming she'd accidently left the door open when she left for work -- until she came back later that night and realized her jewelry and some of her clothes were missing. Ladeairous said about $1,000 in jewelry and clothes were taken taken from a dresser and boxes inside the apartment.

There was no sign of forced entry into the apartment, and no indication anything else had been disturbed.

Anyone with information on the burglary is asked to call the Port Chester Police Department at 914-939-1000.
