Jewelry, Cash Taken in Purdy Ave. Burglary

The victim told police she lost a small fortune in gold and cash.

A Port Chester woman claims a small fortune in jewelry and cash were stolen from her in a burglary last week.

The victim, a 56-year-old woman from Purdy Avenue, told police she works as a babysitter in Yonkers and usually doesn't return to her Port Chester apartment until the weekend.

On Friday, she told police she returned home and noticed jewelry and cash missing -- lots of it. In addition to 10 gold rings, several gold watches valued at $15,000, the victim said $3,400 in cash was stolen from her bedroom.

She shares the apartment with two roommates and does not have a lock on her bedroom door, police said. The Port Chester Police Department is continuing an investigation.
