Former Larchmont Resident, 62, Killed In I-95 Accident

84-Year-old Larchmont woman also injured.

Update, 8/17, 11:15 a.m.: Adele Mancuso, 62, the driver of the vehicle that was struck by the tractor-trailer tire, was killed in the accident.  The former Larchmont resident had recently moved to Toms River, NJ, said New York State Police Investigator Joseph Becerra. Her mother, Constance Casalina, 84, a Larchmont resident, was a passenger in the car and sustained injuries, said Becerra.

Update, 4:55 p.m.: As police divert traffic off Exit 21 and to surrounding local roads, there are gridlock conditions on Purchase Street in Rye and Route One near the on- and off-ramps between Rye and Port Chester.

Update, 6:05 p.m.: Fox 5 News has reported that a 62 year-old woman was killed after her car was struck by a tire that fell off a tractor trailer onto her vehicle. Another woman in the passenger side of the car was taken for medical treatment.

Commuters heading back to Port Chester and traveling in neighboring communities this afternoon might want to find an alternate route.

All northbound traffic on I-95 has come to a standstill after a crash, according to state police at Troop T.

"We're suggesting people take alternate routes," said R.W. Groneman, a state police public information officer.

The crash was reported at mile marker 14.3, between exits 21 and 22. Police say they expect lanes to remain closed for several hours as they conduct an accident investigation.

The accident is also affecting traffic on the Cross Westchester Expressway.
