Gunfire The Latest In String of Violent Incidents at N. Main St. Bar

Police found a shell casing after reports of gunfire outside La Dolce Vita early this morning.

Gunfire erupted outside of a North Main Street drinking establishment early this morning, marking the latest in a string of violent incidents at the same bar.

Port Chester police were called to La Dolce Vita at 451 N. Main St. at 2:23 a.m., after a caller reported a fight that had spilled out of the bar, possibly involving a gun.

When officers arrived, several witnesses told them they'd seen the main group involved in the altercation piling into a gray Saab with Connecticut plates before driving off, Lt. James Ladeairous said.

Police interviewed neighbors and witnesses, and a search of the area turned up one shell casing. So far there's no indication that anyone was hit, but police say it's not unusual for victims to come forward afterward, or for victims to reveal themselves after checking into local hospitals.

Thursday morning's incident marks the second time there's been in less than one year; other incidents at the same address include an , a and a violent incident sparked when a customer was last year.

Whether it's a case of the bar drawing the wrong type of crowd, the bar's , or other factors, the latest incident has drawn the attention of Port Chester's political leaders.

The bar is situated in a mixed commercial-residential zone, where families occupy apartments above several businesses on the ground floor. Trustee Luis Marino said he started getting calls this morning from neighbors who were jolted awake by the sound of a gunshot.

"I got a couple of phone calls from residents this morning asking me if I knew anything about gunfire," Marino said.

Attempts to contact the bar's owners were unsuccessful: The bar's website has been disabled by its ISP, the main phone listing for the bar has been disconnected, and a second number does not connect to a voicemail.

In the meantime, Marino said he plans to contact the village attorney and schedule a discussion with fellow trustees to look at options related to the violent incidents tied to the bar.

"We need to do something about it," Marino said. "It needs to be safe for the people, that's what it comes down to."
