Gun Scare On Westchester Avenue: Port Chester Police Confiscate Pellet Rifle

Downtown merchant thought man in front of his store had a real gun.

Port Chester police have seized a pellet rifle from a 24-year-old village man who caused a brief scare on Saturday when he was spotted taking the rifle out of the trunk of his car on Westchester Avenue.

A downtown business owner spotted the air-powered gun being pulled out of the car and called police because he thought it was a real gun. The man had left the area by the time police got to the store, however, they were able to track down the car through security video.

When confronted, the 24-year-old pellet gun owner said his rifle is broken and he was supposed to meet someone downtown who could help him fix the rifle. The man, however, told police the other party did not show up — so he went home.

Police said the man was not charged with anything, but he was reminded that it's not a good idea to display any kind of weapon in public. And, the pellet gun was confiscated. Police said the gun owner did not seem to mind the gun being taken — since it does not work.
