Grandpa Allegedly Left Kids in Hot Car for Almost an Hour, Police Say

Police charged a 73-year-old Greenwich man with two counts of endangering the welfare of a child, a misdemeanor, after he allegedly left his two grandchildren in his car for 50 minutes while he shopped in Pathmark, Port Chester Police Lt. James Ladeairous said.

Police responded to a call about the two children, who are nine and four years old, left in the car with the windows up on Saturday, June 22 at 11 a.m. and found the children profusely sweating and hot to the touch, according to Ladeairous. Police had an ambulance take them to Greenwich hospital for evaluation.
When police questioned the man he told them he was in the store for 10 minutes, but surveillance footage showed he had been gone for 50 minutes, police said.
