Losing your home and all your possessions in a fire is hard enough; going through that ordeal when you have a baby on the way and a family to house is even worse.
Trustee Luis Marino is hoping Port Chester continues its tradition of banding together for local disaster victims as he hosts a fundraiser and drive for the victims of last week's Midland Avenue fire this Sunday at the South End firehouse.
A family of four, with two young children, and a family of five with a baby on the way were both left homeless. Marino said one family has found an apartment – although at a rental price far higher than their previous home – while the second family is still looking for permanent lodging.
Marino and the will hold a fund-raiser and drive for the families on Sunday, March 13, from 9 a.m. to 43 p.m. at the , at 51-53 Grace Church Street.
Toys, books, clothes and monetary contributions will be collected by firefighters to assist the families.
