A state trooper who stopped to help a Bronx man whose car broke down on the Sprain Brook Parkway on Sunday soon discovered this was not your average stranded motorist.
Darrin Foster, 45, turned out to be a fugitive wanted by the U.S. Secret Service in connection with a $1.2 million theft, according to State Police.
In addition to getting a tow for his car, Foster got a ride in a State Police car to the Hawthorne barracks, where he was turned over to the Secret Service. Foster was then transferred to Brooklyn, where he is awaiting arraignment on federal charges.
State Police said Trooper Peter Steixner came upon Foster’s disabled car on the parkway in Yonkers. Foster requested a tow truck for his car and while waiting for the tow truck, Steixner asked Foster for identification.
State Police said Foster provided a false name and date of birth, and he was then arrested on the charge of false personation. Steixner soon discovered Foster’s true identity and that Foster’s driver’s license had been suspended for failure to pay court-ordered child support.
Steixner also found that Foster was wanted by the U.S. Secret Service for wire fraud stemming from charges that Foster stole $1.2 million from his former employer, an investment company in Westport, CT.
Foster additionally faces a state charge of aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.
