FBI to Search Indiana Landfill for Lauren Spierer

Indiana police have obtained a search warrant to investigate a landfill 55 miles from Bloomington in relation to Lauren Spierer's disappearance.

The FBI have expanded their investigation forby obtaining permission to search a Vigo County landfill, according to WTHR-TV

Sycamore Ridge, a landfill where trash is deposited from Bloomington and other surrounding areas, is located eight miles south of Terre Haute, approximately 55 miles from the 20-year-old Edgemont native's last wherabouts.

Republic Services, the owner and operator of Sycamore Ridge, sent a statement to regarding the Bloomington Police's June 16 request for a search warrant to examine the landfill's premises.

"We are working with the FBI regarding a search of the Sycamore Ridge Landfill. We will help them and accommodate their needs. They are controlling the search. We just own the property," Republic Services said. 

Reports state that police have already visited the landfill and staked out an area where Bloomington trash is dumped. The Bloomington Police Department has declined to comment.

Spierer, who was last observed by witnesses partying with friends on June 3, has been missing for two months. Police say Spierer was last seen walking alone and barefoot to her apartment complex in downtown Bloomington, Ind.
