Fake $100 Bills Passed At Two Stores In Port Chester

Counterfeits used within just a few minutes.

Counterfeit $100 bills were passed at two local stores on Monday, according to Port Chester police.

Police believe it was the same man who used the fake currency to make small purchases at the A.I. Friedman store, 495 Boston Post Road in the Kohl’s Plaza and at the nearby Carvel store at 431 Boston Post Road within just a few minutes.

The A.I. Friedman store reported getting a counterfeit $100 bill at about 4:10 p.m. when a customer purchased a picture frame. At about 4:15 p.m., the Carvel store reported it too had recieved a fake $100 bill from a customer.

Port Chester police Lt. James Ladeairous said the fake bills looked very real and even passed one type of security check. However, Ladeairous said a close inspection of the bills revealed they were fake.

The man who distributed the bills was described as a black, wearing a white shirt and bluejeans. Additional details about his description were not available.

Ladeairous said his department has not come across many local instances of counterfeit currency being passed.

There are so many new security features on the current paper money we use how could you not spot a fake? The counter fitting cannot accurately duplicate any of the micro printing or the watermark

The suspect preys on employees that are easy. It passed a counterfeit pen test, So they don't check any further. Very easy to miss when you have a busy line in the store. Watch out , paper is REAL ( bleached $1 bills ) ,printed with $100 denominations

Even if you have a long line it takes all of 4 seconds to hold it up to see the watermark and micro-printing. I was a supermarket cashier in a busy store for years and the few fakes that ever came into my hands I spotted right away and pulled them out. In one case the guy even ran out the door when I discovered him. We never used those pens because it's easy to trick them.
